Man’s Search for Meaning 24
I saw a video clip of some 2
minutes, where a group photo was being taken …. father, mother and two grown up
sons are shown.
- From the body language one can surmise that there is some problem between the eldest son and his father…he stands near to the youngest brother, but at a distance.
- The photographer asks him to come closer, but he maintains the small distance. then he was asked to shift the side to come and stand near his father. Here also he maintains some distance… the photographer repeats his request…
- But finally, the father takes the initiative and gradually pull the boy towards him… this brings about an emotional breakdown in him and he was seen crying almost... the photo session ends with taking a photo where all were found smiling… end.
This doesn’t require an explanation..... a regular feature in almost all families over the years.... films like Do Raste
are on such differences in the family.
Mostly such things are linked
to either property or some Love interest where the family is not in favour. the
relationship sours sometimes for full life, till someone passes away… (I am
closely aware of such events in life; hence, this write up itself).
This gets extended in organizations’
too, where the ego clashes between peers are legendary in any organization….
All such characters, known to me are even dead and gone now… why such behavior
and for what… like in family, in organizations, or political parties.
One can say that the human
nature nurtures discord… at many places… where concord would have given joy and
happiness... but it is fated otherwise.... almost all stories from East or West have
such themes… fight and discord among close relations…. both Mahabharat and Ramayana
are classic cases for us… ditto with Shakespearean dramas.
It gets repeated in rich families
too… the fight between the Ambani brothers, the history will recall…
What is the way out…? Is
there a way out at all?
I was once attending a western based training
programme … as part of the programme the faculty asked whether any one has some
unresolved issues with others … one man said he has an issue with his brother
who is in Canada and they are not in talking terms for long… so the faculty
asked him to pick he phone and dial him then itself.... for which the man gave an
excuse that the time may not be suitable to Canada…. So, the faculty asked him
to call him in the night and report the status on the next day… the man refused
to do that stating that he will be insulted by his brother. ..but the faculty
insisted…
On the next day, he was asked
about the outcome. he replied that he called his brother and brother was very happy
to talk to him after such a gap and enquired about everyone at home… here the
faculty intervened and conveyed the LESSON to all…
If we make efforts, it is possible to resolve many such issues.
· Often both wants to resolve
but ego prevents from doing so… here the faculty added that one MUST shed the
ego for some time and take the FIRST step…. akin to what the father did in the group photo…
·
Can we do that… will we do that… all will depend on what the fate
has in store for us….
Knowledge is power… but
applied knowledge is wisdom… the choice is ours to apply the knowledge.... always..
Be happy. Be safe.
