Jonathan Livingston Seagull
When it comes to achieving excellence, the book quoted for decades is Jonathan Livingston Seagull(by Richard Bach), indeed a very inspiring one.
· All
the managers and aspiring leaders must read this book and recommend the same to
their juniors such that the excelling culture will be built around, which is needed to compete, sustain and excel in this
fast changing era.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is the
fictional story of a seagull who
fought his shortcomings, his current circumstance and the torturous taunts
of fellow seagulls to rise to a sense of higher achievement. He was
no ordinary bird. He was fuelled by thought of glorious flight. More than any
thing else, Jonathan Livingston seagull loved to fly and conquer new
heights, though the gulls are able to fly to only a very limited level.
- · He spared
no time for talk with other gulls, but flew on past sunset. How much more there
is to living now, he thought, to lift ourselves out of ignorance, to find
ourselves as creatures of excellence, intelligence and skill. We can be free if
we can learn to fly, so he thought always.
Jonathan aspired for a glory that was
far beyond worldly. Jonathan achieved excellence through sheer will, courage, confidence
and conviction.
He helped others to realize their dreams too.
· We learn from Jonathan that anyone, who dreams and dares,
attains a newer heaven each time. This is
a book that must be given to kids as birthday presents.
· It teaches very many lessons that they will need later in life.
- Unfortunately in our school and college education-as I had my own long experience to add- the teachers and professors are not going beyond their limited subject that too in a very minimum manner.
- That was the story fifty years back. Has it improved? I wonder.
· I am closely aware of the school and college
education in the eighties, nineties, and later too , especially MBA education.
· Now let us come to PG education including MBA.
Ask any MBA of today, whether they are familiar with the above book. It will
tell a story.
- Children should be exposed to best books, thoughts, quotes and role models. Hence it is stated that education is an investment and not an expense, though today money determines the education that one can have… as it has become mostly a fee/donation/coaching based activity, beyond the reach of majority of human race-whether in developed or developing world. At least they can read a book like this which is definitely affordable.
“Arise, Awake, Stop not till the goal is reached” is the inspiration that one will get after reading this book.
A highly inspirational book for all time to come.
Jonathan's story has great relevance to all spiritual aspirants too. Like the gull, each seeker is also trying to reach the unknown based on the words of Gurus. It is sheer will power and incessant efforts that will make one to reach the summit of spiritual realisation. Here too Jonathan' s story could be a great motivator.
Be happy. Be safe.
