Loving Life
The need of the hour is Love, more particularly, Loving Life. The million dollar question is "do we really love life?" One may be baffled by such an obvious question. All will add why to ask such a silly question . Of course, we love our lives and that of others. Truly?
If we truly love life, then how come
·
People resort to self abusive and often
destructive actions like drinking, smoking, drug taking, tobacco chewing etc.
despite repeated warnings
·
People indulge in very many harmful / life
threatening sports/ games like racing, boxing, bull fighting, bungee jumping,
hot air balloon rides, gliding , jumping to Niagara falls etc.?
·
People resort to spying, espionage, double crossing,
terrorism, looting, killing, etc. knowing pretty well that the end will be often
destructive?
·
People make same mistakes like dowry deaths,
wife burning, suicides and many such self defeating actions repeatedly?
·
People resort to underhand deals and criminal
activities like trafficking in women, children abuse, smuggling, robbery,
blackmailing and what not thinking, like a cat drinking milk with closed eyes
or the Ostrich burying its head in the sand, that somehow they will go without
detection.
·
People resort to rail crossing and footboard
and even rooftop travelling where the probability of death is very high?
·
Wonder of wonders, people continue to try their
luck with corruption and illegal activities knowing fully well that most of the
past culprits were caught, humiliated, jailed and even punished?
Yes, many have escaped in the past that embolden many more to try
their luck in these nefarious fields, not realizing that everyday is not a
Sunday and law can catch up with them. Again how come-
·
People recklessly pollute nature, contribute
towards global warning, make life giving rivers in to garbage drains, pristine
snow covered hills into garbage dumps etc. ?
· Sea and rivers are polluted through variety of ways that life of flora and fauna are threatened irrevocably/ badly. Questions abound.
Some channel showed the other day the plight of the river passing through Pune city, in India , which has become a waste water drain. People are concerned as to what they will bequeath to their future generations. Ditto with Yamuna at New Delhi, Gomati at Lucknow, Ganges near Allahabad etc. Forests are fast disappearing, wild animals are becoming extinct.
Only human beings are on the rise. In India alone the population has gone up from 50 Crore to apprx.140 Crore or so in less than 50 years. Will a day come when only human beings will be left in this wonderful world? A wild and worthless guess? Then what will be the fate? Demographic dividends will then rise or fall?
·
Hence the question, do we really love life?
·
Do we really love ourselves?
·
Do we love others?
·
Do we care for nature and other living beings?
· Are we using the precious gift called life for the betterment of self and society?
These are some of the issues that deserve urgent attention as one finds that Loving Life is fast disappearing on this planet. At this moment many nations are raring /preparing for war at different parts of the world. What did we really learn from the past?
Needless to add that if one has to celebrate New Year with gusto, year after year, we also need others amidst us like, rivers, trees, birds, animals, mountains, snow peaks, etc., all gifted to us by nature.
If we do not take care, who will? Should we bother or leave to others to take care? With an average education of a human being very minimal in this world, expecting people to be concerned about larger issues will be a wishful thinking.
It is those who have been blessed with the capacity
and knowledge level to take the lead should make the difference. What is stated
by Bill Gate's mother is very apt here-
FROM THOSE TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS EXPECTED.
Let us do our bit to make this world a better place to live for self and others. Are we doing enough? A question that brooks no delay.
.(This was penned on 1.1.2012 as a New year message)
NB.
- This was written when there was no COVID pandemic.
- Today the world is far different from 2012 and with the Afghan situation again turning violent and volatile, much could happen in future in the world.
- World is in a real VUCA situation .
Urgent thinking is the need of the hour.
Be happy. Be safe.
