Day 39. Review- 8

Hindus are divorced of Hinduism, as it appears. Many of them question the very foundation of Hindu thoughts, as if they have taken birth to settle some score.

Many of the neo-rich, with western jobs or education, added fuel to the fire. Hence Hinduism is systematically bashed at every street corner, through  TV debates, movies, reality shows ,books, paintings, cartoons, demonstrations….. with Hindus leading the onslaught.. list is endless.

Why this trend and how this came to happen? Worth a look.

Being a faculty for over 4 decades, I had occasions to sense the understanding of Hindu thoughts with countless number of trainees. Being a SQ inclined person, even before becoming faculty, that was my first passion in life.

I used to ask simple questions like what is the difference between Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavat, at some time or other. And I got the answer fully, for the current sorry state of Hinduism now and earlier. They were totally ignorant of the basics!

Hindus have no formal school or place to teach the religion .Unless the parents have some background, children depend on their schools for some education. In today’s world, the situation is well known.

Be that the case, let me list out the following as, I have come across  today,  even senior citizens  are not able to list the differences!

 Bhagawat Gita

 Bhagawat Purana

Covered in Mahabharata, Happened some 5000 years ago

It is an independent text, where Veda Vyas first told it to his son, Sri Suka.

Lord Krishna delivers Gita to Arjun in the battle field

Suka Rishi tells to King Pareekshit on the banks of Ganges

Prompted by Arjun’s reluctance to engage in the war due to some mental delusions

King Pareekshit  was cursed by a Brahmin boy to die within 7 days by snake bite. He was looking for  a remedy to escape from the inevitable

Gita teaches the art of living

Bhagavat teaches the art of dying-facing the inevitable

Provides the right knowledge-Gyan

Provides the right knowledge- Gyan

At the end delusion-Moha  ends

At the end delusion-Moha ends

Both Arjun and Pareekshti (who was the grand son of Arjun) reached their respective goals.

Many will be having some ideas about Bhagavad Gita. But many may not be familiar with the Purana.

In all parts of India, Sapthaham- 7 days of discourse is held on Bhagavat Purana, and at least once all should attend, if not fully, some part. That will be a life changing experience. If time is a constraint, sufficient lectures/discourses of Bhagavat Purana is available on the net in all languages.

Now what could be the excuse for not knowing?

Be happy. Be safe.
