Day 16. Pride and prejudice -1

Pride and prejudice are  two pillars on which almost all human behaviour is based. Hence it is worth some analysis before getting to other serious areas of spiritualism. Let us start with the  meaning of these two terms-

                      Pride

      Prejudice

1.the quality or state of being proud: such as. a: inordinate self-esteem: conceit. b: a reasonable or justifiable self-respect. c: delight or elation arising from some act, possession, or relationship parental pride. 2: proud or disdainful behavior or treatment: disdain.

“a strong unreasonable feeling of not liking or trusting somebody/something, especially when it is based on his/her/its race, religion or sex.”

Come to think of it that almost 99.999999% of the human specie will be conducting with some pride and prejudice. I have left a micro percentage for some who may vociferously claim that they are above materialism and already one with the creator. So, an escape route to meet such claims a gap is left. It is for the public to judge the ground reality!!!

Let us briefly touch on the animal kingdom, say up to ants. what is their behavioural pattern? Whether they also have pride and prejudice. As author lacks expertise on that, am not venturing deeper, except to postulate that even they may be having some of those attributes.

Hence, we have heard about the leadership struggle among lions, elephants and other animals. But one fact is crystal clear that there must be some order, guidance and direction. Otherwise, how we see the fantasist order even among the ants. Take the case of pack of elephants, zebra etc. they all move in one direction. You will not see them going in different directions.

About their pride, one is not able to discern. ( wonder whether they have their own  beauty contests and social media!) Here, the man may be unique.

But one quality is noticeable among all animals. They don’t kill their own specie . They may fight with teeth, claws, hands, legs and trunks etc. That is all. But they do not go to the extend of killing their own breed in groups- like men- and eating their meat. (Though human beings do not generally eat human meat, we have also heard about cannibals…)

·        But man is well known to have developed all arsenal possible to kill, maim and destroy other human beings, based on own pride and prejudices. Let me just list out the weapons, I am aware of though my knowledge is of course limited… knife, swords, spear, bow and arrows, metal claws, guns, machine guns, bombs, grenades tanks, rockets, fighter planes, war ships, sub marines, mines, nuclear bombs, chemical weapons, tear gas, other gases ----------------------------- list is endless.

·         Research is done over the centuries to invent newer weapons of mass destruction and they are regularly used across the world, continuously to know their efficacy. At this time many wars/ conflicts  are going on around the world.

·        None learnt anything from the world war II and even with bodies like UN the world is back to basics in many areas. War is resorted to settle score. This is the highest demonstration of prejudice for others.

·        Then comes the aspect of pride—in one’s gender, colour of the body, parents, mother tongue, language, education, state/body, language, position, cadre, party, achievements, recognitions, wealth, religion,……………….. that is also endless.

In a such society with over 7 billion carrying limitless pride and prejudices, how one can expect harmony, peace, tranquility, compassion, justice, happiness --- all the basic requirements/ roots of spiritualism. Worth  thinking.

Be happy. Be safe.
