Day 15. Phobia ( 5)

The phobia of death we have seen in sufficient detail, and we must move on as none wants to even discuss that subject for long.

However, all the Hindu scriptures give a lot of space on discussing that subject.

In fact ,Bhagavat Purana, in some 18000 slokas has elaborated on the ways to overcome the fear of death. A great text read over a period of 7 days- called Sapthaham- in various parts of the country even today. Listeners of that text will never be afraid of discussing death, unlike children being fearful of shadows .

Ripe old people are even  afraid to discuss the end. A very popular old Tamil movie song was as follows—ponal pokattum pada, ponal pokattum poda…meaning let us forget about people who have gone… let us not hanker after them…. Very practical… indeed.

So, how to overcome fear of death. One method is to become truly spiritual.

All the following have given sufficient Gyan to overcome the fear of death viz.

 Bhagavat Gita,

 Brahma Sutra,

Ramayana,

Mahabharat ,

 18 puranas,

Yoga Vasishta etc

Bhagavad Gita is the most important text in that genre.

Once the message of Gita is imbibed, there is no terror of death for such people. But Gita should be studied with interest and understanding. One sloka is sufficient for the discerning seeker—

जातस्य हि ध्रुवो मृत्युर्ध्रुवं ्म मृतस्य
तस्मादपरिहार्येऽर्थे  त्वं शोचितुमर्हसि –( BG 2.27)

All those born are bound to die and those die will be reborn. On this inevitable aspect of life, a wise man will not lament.

Is this difficult to comprehend for a man with reasonable intellect? Definitely Not.

But most  people don’t want to comprehend or pretend ,like Ostrich, not to see/understand.

There is  a quote which states that we listen not to understand but to reply/question.

Even God will not be able to help them.

Be happy. Be safe.
