Pride and prejudice , by Jane Austen, was written around 1813. As the title suggests the book highlights the pride and prejudice of different characters including the main one.

While recollecting the story from the internet,
the following sentence arrested my attention,"the course of Elizabeth and
Darcy’s relationship is ultimately decided when Darcy overcomes his pride and Elizabeth overcomes
her prejudice, leading them both to surrender to their
love for each other”.
·
It
has been covered earlier that all are driven by these two aspects. Hardly any
exceptions are there. Then, such persons may not be in the mundane world’s
transactions.

All are now almost crazy to show their
photos/achievements to everyone… now the facility of Facebook etc. gives the window too. The
craze for selfie even in front of running train or inside the Lion’s cage etc.
has cost many lives in the country.
In this insatiate desire to show off, the role of pride looms too big for comfort. Now a days, in
a marriage, photos are more important than the function itself, hence sometime
the sacred rituals are repeated for photographer’s convenience!
Pride and prejudice have no place in the spiritual path, let me state that clearly and loudly. Unless one is able to abandon them 100% no progress will be ever made. One is merely chasing a mirage then. Rama and kama (desire) won’t go together which is stated ad infinitum.
I
have come across assurances of instant moksha, mediation, nirvana etc. for the
uninitiated. After a long haul, one will realize that he/she has been taken for
a ride.
Ahamkara- ego-is the root cause for all mental turbulences. Unless those oscillations stop completely, the spiritual progress is well neigh impossible.
There is no beating around the bush here. One cannot
swim without entering the water - meaning one cannot be in two boats simultaneously. I am not talking
about virtual swimming here!
If spiritual attainment is the goal--as that is the intended goal of this blog at
least- then Pride and prejudice have no place at
all in that quest.
Be happy. Be safe.
