Jagrata .....Jagrata....8
This
is the last stanza of the Hymn. Human beings meet and part with/from others on
a regular basis… take the case of a long train journey.. Many people enter the
compartment at different stations and also depart at various destinations. In
between lot of interactions take place among
co-passengers, but when they leave each other there is no sorrow or sadness or longing… so the following stanza by the Acharya says...
इदँ काष्ठँ इदम् काश्ट्ःअँ
नध्यँ वहतिसँगतः।
सँयोगाक्ष्च वियोगाक्ष्च
का तत्र परिदेवना॥ 8
Bodies or logs of wood come together in the
flowing water… they flow together for some time only to be parted later on..
Hence meeting and parting are a normal phenomenon, why then one should lament
over it?…
- All lamentations arise from the feeling of “Mamata” feelings.. I and Mine thinking… my family… my property… my job etc. … once this “ My” Budhi is transcended, there is no scope for sorrow…
- We are normally not bothered about a war or destruction in a far of place or country… but when it is nearby or affecting us or our direct people, then all anxiety, worry or sorrow wells up..
- Acharya asks us to rise above it by using our VIVEKA… discriminative power… always.. he in all his writings stated that such a sorrowful thinking arises only due to MOODHATWAM… FOOLISHNESS..
- Hence one of his mater pieces is also titled as VIVEKACHOODAMANI…. CREST JEWEL OF DISCRIMINATION.
- These stanzas are so simple to read/ understand… but they also encompass all the dimensions’ of human existence….only if we care to reflect… deeply.... punah.. punah… again and again..
Let us contemplate on the pregnant verses of JAGRATA… JAGRATA..
repeatedly… for lasting understanding, peace and tranquillity …
