Day 194

 Jagat Guru Adi Shankaracharya

A 13 Ft statue of Adi Shankaracharya was unveiled by our Hon. PM yesterday at Kedarnath…. This is a momentous time for the Hindus, more so for those who follow the Vedantic traditions. On that occasion, the Hon. PM stated-

We are doing all this because today’s India shows faith in the directions of great personalities like Adi Shankaracharya and takes pride in that. Some people question how we will do everything in such a short time. Then a voice comes from within me. I hear the voice of 130 crore Indians and all I say is that India does not accept to be bound within time limits and getting scared anymore,” he added.

Talking about the role of Adi Shankaracharya, who he called an incarnation of Lord Shiva himself, Modi said there was a time when spirituality and dharma was connected only with stereotypes and wrong morals but the Indian philosophy talks about human welfare and looks at life with a holistic approach.

Adi Shankaracharya made the society familiar with this truth. He established holy maths, Char Dham and the renaissance of 12 jyotirlingas. Our Upanishad culture teaches us to question every time. This inheritance of ours has been kept alive by our maths for thousands of years. They are prospering it. Be that Sanskrit, Vedic Mathematics or Science, the math and the tradition of Shankaracharya has secured this and showed path to generations. In the present time, the philosophies of Shankaracharya are even more relevant,” he said. (Source- Indian Express, Internet)

Adi Shankaracharya achieved phenomenal success during his life and later on due to the visionary efforts he had taken to resuscitate the Hindu traditions. His philosophical works and especially Kirtans on almost all the major deities are popular even today… notable among them are-

  • ·       Sivananda Lahari
  • ·       Soundarya Lahari
  • ·       Bhaja Govindam
  • ·       Nirvana Shatakam
  • ·       Dakshinamurthy Stotram
  •     SivaManasa Puja
  •     Bhavanyashtakam

—the list goes on..

It is another matter that many of the Hindus are totally unaware of such works… it will be a revealing thing to find out their awareness of  his works…

But the efforts taken by the Hon. PM to restore the lost pride of Kedarnath and other places of worship by his visits etc. will definitely play an important role in the revival of Hindu traditions…

Due to this visit , one could get a detailed view of the Kedarnath temple surrounding and a virtual Darshan of the  temple puja and Kedar Baba.

Further, one could also see the BHISHMA Shila, which is a huge boulder that protected the main temple during the floods of 2013. None could ,even now, fathom how such a rock landed near the temple... OM Namah Shivaya!!!

Be peaceful.

Vande Mataram.

  3. Perhaps, one cannot fathom the extent of travel Lord Shankaracharya did in his short span of 32 years, spreading the message of equality, forbearance, gratitude, love, and guru vandana. He was, without doubt, one of modern days greatest teachers, and his teachings are very relevant even today after many centuries.
