 End of a martyred soldier

Blog 170 highlighted the supreme sacrifice of Sepoy Vysakh and four other soldiers on Monday last. His mortal remains were brought to Kerala on Wednesday night and then to his village in Kottarakkara today.

Thousands paid their last respects to him enroute to his native place and also at the school where the coffin was kept for paying tributes.

Thereafter the coffin was taken to his dream house- Vishakham- which was completed and moved in only early this year…

He was cremated with full Military and Police honors with Gun Salute amidst the chanting of Bharat Mata Ki Jia and Vande Mataram.... the visuals seen about the final journey and rites were indeed heart touching…. The scene of handing over of the National Flag, which wrapped the coffin of Vysakh and his Uniform to his hapless mother was indeed heart wrenching… no mother should have such a sorrowful plight in life ever…

Such news and sights benumb anyone….

Though the river of life will flow for his mother, sister, close family, friends, colleagues and countrymen, as that is the law of nature…. a vacuum will exist forever….

Departure of a young lad, who has taken first steps in life with a house being completed, car being bought, sister being educated in college, mother being looked after so fondly, involved in the social and other activities of a small village in Kerala… apart from his heroic contribution to the security of the mother land… the vacuum will be felt always…

We the living can only pay our respects for such martyrs and pray for their families…. And hope that such events will not get repeated.

But then such a hope is meaningless and futile- going by the history of Independent India since 1947…

…my hands/pen refuses to move further in this painful saga called Independence, freedom, patriotism, martyrdom and eventual sorrow to one and all… time and again…
