Day 160

 Man's search for meaning- 17

Maha Mrityunjay Temple is a Hindu Temple shrine dedicated to Hindu God Shiva situated in NagaonAssam, This Temple is newly constructed and completed in Feb 2021.

·       Temple has world's largest 126-foot-tall Shivalinga, this feature is made it unique and very attractive for the devotees.

·       Construction of temple was initiated in 2003 by Acharya Bhrigu Giri Maharajas, this place  was used  by him to meditate and according to him demon guru Shukracharya performed Maha Mrityunjay (Mantra) religious rituals here in ancient times as per mythological beliefs.

·       Based oo this thought Acharya Bhrigu Giri Maharajas had chosen this place for temple construction (Pran Pratishta).

· The Temple Inauguration was done by Pran Pratishta Mahotsav, worship (Puja) was stated on 22 Feb and ended on 25 Feb 2021.

·       108 Yagna Kundas was established for the Yagna and around 250 priests came from Tamil Nadu to perform the Pran Pratishta Yagna.

·       After completion of Pran Pratishta Yagna then Temple was opened for normal devotees from 26 Feb 2021.

Maha Mrityunjay Temple is situated in Mahapurush Srimanta Damodar Path, Kalajugi,Puranigudam, Bardua area Nagaon, Assam around 120 km far from heart city of  Guwahati.( wiki)

The temple structure looks vey unique and imposing as per photos and videos seen. The elevation, before the Shiv Linga is placed/made, makes the structure very imposing and captivating to the viewer. The view during the night is extremely beautiful.

The temple is surrounded by extensive lawn area in which water fountains are also placed… the whole atmosphere resembles a major tourist spot and will be an  attraction in  future years… the place is much away from Guwahati and apparently in a barren/open area. Hence there is scope for further development… one can be sure that it will become a major tourist attraction in the state of Assam.

The ground floor was also seen in the videos. The walls of the temple complex are covered with beautiful paintings from the Shiva Purana… looked very charming …

All in all, a visit  in person or watching  the videos will generate devotion in mind to Lord Shiva…. without  doubt…

The project must have been completed at  a huge cost…

  • one may ask whether the country needs new temples…. the answer will be in the affirmative…
  • at a time when people are getting delinked from their religious roots and traditions and are straying from the path, it is all the more necessary such out of the world temples are created
  •  that will not only help to strengthen religious feelings among the youngsters but also help in tourism development for the state and country

( A big idol( 145 feet tall) of Lord Muruga was consecrated near Salem, Tamil Nadu recently…the mere sight of it (albeit over the net)  rekindles the religious feelings…. So, the temples and religious images are needed to keep our links with the past … to ward of unhealthy influences from  unhealthy outside forces…).

Scope for tourism-an example

  • The daily average tourist footfall at Statue of Unity- Gujarat- during November 2019 reached 15,036, outpacing the Statue of Liberty (which attracts around 10,000 daily visitors on average).
  • It has been included in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s ‘8 Wonders of SCO’ list.
  • In its first year of operation, the Statue of Unity attracted 29 lakh (2,900,000) visitors and collected ₹82 crore in ticket revenue.
  • By 15 March 2021, 50 lakh (5,000,000) tourists visited the venue.( wiki)

One must appreciate the people behind this noble and massive project in Assam.

  • Kudos to them…they are the people who are really giving back to the motherland in kind… May their tribe increase manifold.

Be happy. Be safe.
