My Employers -I

 Bhagavat Purana talks about 24 gurus of the Avadhuta- Dattatreya. Like that all of us will be having a large number of gurus in our own life, if we start looking back.

I had the opportunity to work in most of the sectors operating in the country viz.  Central Government, Public sector, PSU, private sector, Non-profit organization, Trust and Co-operative sector. This provided great opportunities to meet/see/interact with a large number of people at very high levels/positions in the country and even abroad.

 I had thus  worked in 7 organizations.  I had  also  occasions to directly report to some 30 plus superiors/bosses. I had many learnings and lessons in those interactions. A few blogs will be devoted to cover  the organizations and the persons who had left some lasting impressions in my life and also helped in my career, some of them have gone for their heavenly abode long back.

Though there are  many others too to add, due to space constraints, the coverage of persons is intentionally restricted.

The first organization is ESIC. This job came before I completed my graduation. In the midst of the final examination, the appointment letter came through the employment exchange. Strange indeed, the appointment letter was delivered in some other flat due to mistake in the address.( There was no interview at all!! Thus the job came on a platter.)

 Some good Samaritan located our flat and delivered the same to me. But for his noble gesture, probably I might have missed the ESIC job. The posting was in the head office located in Lower Parel and the superintendent of the administrative department was a fine and thorough gentleman- Dattarsaab. He was extremely good looking and of very pleasant demeanour. It was a pleasure listening to him. Though the lingua franca of the office was mostly Marathi, I had no issues at all in working, because all the people around were friendly and nice.

The tenure lasted barely 5 months. By that time, I had enrolled for M. Com course and was eager to get into an accounting job. But the working experience in ESIC was relaxed and uneventful. Soon after closing at 5 PM, I used to rush to Poddar college at Matunga for the evening lectures, after having some snacks at Sarada Bhavan. All those thoughts make one nostalgic of the time gone by.

But coming back to Dattarsaab, I was quite impressed. 

• Being a young lad of barely 20 years, the first job experience really matters.
•  Thank you Dattarsaab for the kind treatment to a fresher and showing the art of managing colleagues.  
• Be happy, wherever you are Sir, my respectful Pranams. 

• Though short, the experience left a long-lasting impression in my mind ,such that I am able to recall easily  even after 48 long years!
