Day 107

Today the term, work life balance has taken the centre stage. Every one from children to old people are talking about work life balance.

In a video a five year child was seen blaming the school and parents for all study and tuition work load. Very revealing ,if one notices the anguish of the toddler. Ditto in many other fields of life. ..In life one has to work, without doubt. In office one has to contribute to excel. This is a given.

Yet what baffles is that the work has become too taxing necessitating people to adopt measures to de-stress and detox. Why indeed? In most of the training institutors full- fledged sessions are being held on stress management. In fact most of the soft skill topics have some linkage with de-stressing.

The current focus on EI- Emotional intelligence- has direct link with stress management, where the full responsibility is given to individual concerned to manage self, such that the journey is pleasant for self and others.

Coming back to the theme here Eudemonia- Happiness- one has to deliberately strive to reach it. The circumstances are not going to change for any one, one has to adjust to reach one’s own level of happiness.

This  quote  provides the problem and also the solution.

"The ultimate end of human acts is Eudemonia, happiness in the sense of living well, which all men desire; all acts are but different means chosen to arrive at it."

- Hannah Arendt, German Historian

While ending the discussion on Eudemonia, it is stressed again that one must strive for happiness, as it will not happen automatically.

Here knowledge helps. Jnanad eva tu kaivalyam,  already covered  repeatedly earlier.

Be happy. Be safe.

  2. A thousand years ago people did not have stress related diseases. They had much less comforts available. Still they were much happier than us. Greed for comfort and wealth is the prime cause for all modern ills.
