The Turkey and the Ant (Fable XXXVIII)
In this poem a turkey is cursing man for killing them on the
thanksgiving day every year. It feels that but for that cruel act, their life
would have been much more happier. For this, one ant replies thus-
“ 'Ere you remark another's sin,
Bid thy own conscience look within;
Control thy more voracious bill,
Nor for a breakfast nations kill”.
This poem is indeed poignant. One of the pastimes of many around is to find fault with anything and everything.
A sumptuous lunch even in a Five Star hotel or in a marriage function will be also criticized by many for the smallest of perceived deficiencies.
( In our country, if we take the criticisms going around , that will make many volumes of the Mahabharata size!!!)
Hence, with such criticism, the available joy and enjoyment are
also jettisoned.
Let us see the Turkey mentality in the current world.
When man kills the wild animals with a vengeance, no ripple happens, however if a leopard or tiger attacks/kills a child/man, that becomes breaking news!!
Those who seek happiness must shun the Turkey mentality.
Be happy, Be safe.
