Man’s Search for Meaning 9
I received an interesting forward
yesterday as under-
“The woman in the picture –( was given there)- with a smile is Salwa Hussein !! She is a woman without a heart
She is a rare case in the world, as
she carries her artificial heart in a bag..
The British newspaper "Daily Mail" reported that Salwa Hussein, aged 39, is the only one who lives like this way in Britain. She is married, is the mother of two children, and tries to live a normal life as much as she can, but with a twist!
Salwa's heart is placed in a bag which
she always holds in her lap. The
bag is always with her with a device with two batteries weighing 6.8 kg,
which is an electric motor and a pump, The batteries push the air into a
plastic bag in the patient's chest through attached tubes, for blood
circulation in her body.
I went deeper into the matter and learned from the internet that she under went the operation in 2017 costing of some Rs.67 Lac, performed by American doctors. The heart equipment’s are carried in a backpack while travelling.
There is a backup equipment if the
first one fails. However the reconnection has to be done in 90 seconds, hence
there should be always someone with her to take care of these details..
How far the medicine has advanced..
· Heart transplantation had taken place long back…
· Cloning of animals we have heard of
· Robots are in use in factories, restaurants etc.
· Talking robots are in place….
· Now heart's function is done by machines that too outside the body
carried in a bag…
So finally what is this body
to which lot of divinity and other importance is accorded..
· Is it a mere machine akin to a created car or vehicle?..
·
Looking at the above case,
the example of a motor car comes into the mind… where engine is at one place,
petrol somewhere else, ignition at a third place etc.. however the vehicle moves seamlessly…
So with a human body like that…. many implants
are already inserted within the human body by doctors…
So the medical advancement is
taking one nearer to human creation… we will have to wait and see what further
developments are going to take place…
So attaching much value to a “vehicle” will be foolhardiness.
·
Hence, the Vedantic teachings
make more sense…
·
it has always maintained that the body is
inert and functions due to the energy-divine force-Brahman and one should not
be concerned with its existence or not…
· as the atman…life force is eternal…and the vehicle will collapse sooner or later and merge with the earth… not the Jeeva… atman… which is eternal..
This
awareness…enlightenment…. will give final/permanent solace to the struggling
minds…provided one is destined to understand that in this life…
I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS SUCH A STRANGE AND COMPLICATED CASE SO FAR.
- THOUGH IT PROVIDE THE ADVANCEMENT IN MEDICINES, CAN WE VISUALISE THE PERSON'S DAILY LIFE- ANXIETIES, FEAR, CARE,UNCERTAINTIES, MENTAL STATE...LIKE DEMOCLE'S SWORD HANGING OVER THE HEAD...
Be happy. Be safe.
