Day 68. Legacy- 5

Madurai Meenakshi Sundereswarar Temple at Madurai, Tamil Nadu is a must visit temple for any devotee. The temple complex is huge and full of carved stone pillars. The main deities include  Goddess, Shiva and Ganesha. There  are  a number of  other deities too.

The temple is famous for the 1000 pillared-ayirakkal- hall.

The temple has a nice pond attached to it, which in the night time reflects the temple itself.

Walking through the temple itself will take some time and effort. With 4 huge gopurams / entrances,  the temple architecture is awesome indeed. One  can spend days to study and enjoy /learn the artwork of the temple.

Many kings from different dynasties have contributed for the construction/modifications of the temple, such that it is developed and maintained as one of  the great temples of mother India. The temple was originally built around 1190.

My  own visit to the temple was for a very brief period, hence not able to elaborate much. Suffice to say, it is a temple worth visiting again and again.

Recently our  Hon. PM had visited the temple and a detailed  video of the visit is available on the net, which gave a closer  look into the various features of the temple complex.

(Our Hon. PM has devoted much time to visit  Hindu Temples and offer prayers, that had not taken place since independence. His visits helped the common man also to get closer views of many temples and to understand the  significance better. I fondly recall the videos on his visits to Tirupati Balaji Temple, Muktinath Temple,Nepal among others.)

Be happy. Be safe.
