Chasing desires is common to all living beings, more so to human beings. While the animals’ chasing is limited to food and probably some shelter, man driven by mind has unlimited and unimaginable desires.
The result of such desires is highlighted in the following highly beautiful and meaningful Malayalam Bhajan of Mata Amrutanandamayi,
manusyan-ivide janichu bhogam
koticcu-neendunnu
edukkuvan-illodukkam-onnum tiriccupōkumbol
taniccu-vannavar tanichu-pōkunnu
tunaykkoralenye
kanakkeduttal perutta nashtam manuşhya janmangal.
Man takes birth and spends his life pursuing different desires, but in the end he returns empty handed. He comes alone and he returns alone. Man's life shows a big loss in the final tally book.
vitaccu koyyam nirnchu deham
tyajichu pökunnu
vitaccu koyyan tirichu veendum tanichu porunnu
manassu meniyil bhramicchu menmel madiccu neentunnu
urattavṛttikal-alacchutullum samudra-nirgghösham
Man sows and reaps and then abandons the body. He then returns all by himself to sow and reap once more. The mind deludes itself into fulfilling the desires of the body; Man swims maddened in the thunderous ocean waves of endless desires and actions.
manuşya-jivitam-udaccuvärkkän
unarttinovättän
orikkaliśvaran-adukkal- ettum
guru-prabhavattil
aññu trikkazhal
vanangiyulkkalam unarnnu-sõbhikke
telinnju sadguru kaniñjutūkum vijanasayujyam
To remake the life of Man, to awaken him and release him from pain, God will approach in the radiant form of the Guru. When we adore Her divine form, our hearts will awaken and become effulgent. She will compassionately bestow upon us eternal knowledge.
What all one does to live in this fragile and brittle world and what is the end result… man comes empty handed and returns empty handed. Well known, yet what all he does to accumulate, amass and enjoy , putting the body to all types of problems. (Recently I read about a person, who smoked some 40 cigarettes per day apart from severe drinking. See the suffering put to the body for the mental enjoyment?)
Being a democratic country, one should not have any
grouse with anyone. Problem starts when
such elements, start intruding into others happiness and activities.
As stated in the Bhajan, finally resorting to some wise
teacher/Guru will help one to cross this Bhavsagar (sea of the living).
For that grace of God is required- even to think on those lines. Very rare ones will have that privilege. Let
us pray forr such a grace.
Be happy. Be safe.

Very truly said.Everyone comes alone and goes alone, not carrying a single thing. It is just like travelling in a train
ReplyDeleteWhen ones destination, one has to leave, no distinction between rich and poor in this.
This is from a reader...
ReplyDeleteLife has become comfortable in many ways. . Everything is well organized. Household and outdoor activities. Nothing to complain but only aspiration is to be controlled.
The greed of individual, corporates and nation is what is causing problem. There must be more cooperation and compassion.
Within the nation better management. And between the nation better cooperation.
